New Year New House
Happy New Year, everyone!
As the holidays and parties wind down and we face a few more months of cold, dark days, people are rarely thinking about home improvement projects. When they do, though, it’s usually unique and fresh items like new decks, sparkling countertops, or new coats of paint.
But one of the most important—and most overlooked—home improvements is good old, boring organization.
How’s that junk drawer looking? (And don’t even get me started on calling it a junk drawer. If it’s junk, throw it out!) Can you find your gloves and hat in the chaos that is your coat closet? What about your spice drawer—does it still have oregano in it? Is it still good? Do spices even go bad? (They do!)
One of my favorite home improvement projects is organizing, and this time of year is perfect for tackling cluttered areas around the house. Organization is the foundation for all other projects. Over this holiday season, I’ve taken on my coat closet.
By pulling everything out and going through each item piece by piece, I ended up with two bags of trash, one bag of recycling, and four bags donated to Goodwill. I added 2 additional shelves, installed ten hooks, and reinforced the clothing rod. The whole process took just 2–3 hours—but it feels like a brand-new closet.
My girlfriend is ecstatic and even “rediscovered” a jacket she hadn’t seen in years.
A.G.P Craft and Build offers more than just building things. I love to tackle organization projects as well. The associated photo with this blog post is a spice drawer I organized for a client. I bought uniform tins, built a custom sized drawer, and then filled and labeled all of the tins. It was a quick project but brought enormous satisfaction to my client.
Let me deal with the clutter so you can enjoy more time for what you love to do. I’ve heard Hunter Mountain has great conditions these days!
